Is tension holding steady?

  • Is tension needing to be increased by more than 6%?

  • Check if the former is straight; straighten if needed.

  • Check and adjust former disks if causing drag or friction.

Are brushes on the former set correctly?

  • Is the web tight on both sides of the former?

  • Push the brush to the rear of the machine to tighten the loose edge of the web.

Are feed rollers in good condition?

  • Replace feed rollers.

Is the web running smoothly on the former?

  • Check for glue buildup on the former.

  • Check if weights on forming rollers are causing drag.

  • Clean the former.

  • Remove weights from forming rollers.

Are gusset disks in correct locations?

  • Check and adjust the height and location of gusset disks per the setup sheet.

Are seam glue rollers in the correct location (height)?

  • Is the roller height listed on the setup sheet?

  • Move the roller to the correct height as per the setup sheet.

Are catchup rollers in good condition and in the correct location?

  • Check for roller damage, glue buildup, or if they are set too tight.

  • Replace damaged rollers.

  • Clean glue buildup.

  • Raise if too tight.

Inconsistent tension

  • Check the drive belt for missing teeth or breaks.

  • Replace the belt.

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, contact the maintenance manager, lead mechanic, or supervisor for further assistance.
